Summer Style Essentials For 2025

Summer is almost here and  what's more seasonal than playing around with your personal style. You’ll be all set for summer with these essential fashion trends for 2025.

Chunky Sandals
Footwear goes through trends just as any fashion item does, and right now, summer footwear like sandals is having a distinctly chunky moment. This is great news for fashionistas who also love a comfortable and practical shoe that will let them stomp around all summer with zero foot pain. To achieve this look, seek out leather or vegan leather sandals with thick straps and cleated soles. Flat or platforms are best, and team them with a delicate floral dress for maximum effect.

Corset Tops
If there is one style item that you truly need in your closet this summer, it's the corset top. Indeed, designer corset tops are a massive trend on social media right now and are ideal for summer as they are both shaping and cool for the warmer weather. If you're not sure where to start with corset tops, try a peasant-style top, which can be matched with a flowy skirt for a casual summer look. Alternatively, if you want something a little more sophisticated, why not try a satin corset with some wide-leg pants for an elegant, but sharply on-trend version.

Waisted Looks
2025 is the summer to not waste your waist! What that means is using your clothing and accessories to draw attention to this region. Happily, there is a range of tactics that will allow you to do this. One is to invest in a wrap top or dress that can be adjusted to your waist to accentuate it. Another is to use a belt at the waistline to create a nipped-in look. This latter strategy can work particularly well with an oversized white and blue striped shirt dress. Just team it with a stylish leather belt and some flat sandals to match, and you will have a deliciously low-effort look that will serve you well all summer long!

Sun Protection
Sunscreen with UVA and UVB filters has always been essential for summer months, but there is a push towards using even more sun protection this year. Perhaps stemming from the Korean glass skin trend, where the skin barrier and health are significant, we are seeing all sorts of innovative sun protections, including easy-to-apply balm sticks that are easy to apply and create a very effective barrier against the dehydration and ageing action of the sun’s rays. Higher level SPFs are also being used this summer, more than ever before. Think factor 50 to begin with. So, consider ditching the tan this year and choose skin health instead by stocking up and regularly applying a good sun cream.

Blush
Blush has been big for a while now, and it's certainly not going anywhere. It's easy to see why it's so beloved, as it provides a wonderful rosy glow that helps make your face look healthy. Of course, the way you apply your blush matters, and if you want to stay on-trend this summer, move it slightly away from the apple of your cheeks and instead apply it from your cheekbones toward your eye. This application will not only show your fashion chops but also help to sculpt your face.

Plaid
Yep, you read that right: one of this year's biggest looks is plaid-patterned items, not in the winter, but for the summer! This break from tradition has brands such as The Row and Maison Margiela to thank for its inception, but you must get the fabric texture right. Look for thinner fabrics with plaid designs that will give you the look while also keeping you cool in the summer heat. If you do want to go for a flannel plaid shirt, then layering it with other items is best, as then you can whip it off and tie it around your waist for a great grunge look that won't have you overheating in the sunshine.

Culottes
Shorts are a summer staple as they are comfortable and keep our legs cool. However, if you want to truly be on trend this summer, you will need to replace your shorts with a slightly longer option. Yes, what we're talking about here is culottes, which are somewhere in between the length of a short and a trouser in length, usually hitting just over the knee. The great thing about culottes is that they still work to help us keep cool during the summer heat, which provides an extra stylish way to do this. The classic A-line culotte shape is bang on trend this season, especially when matched with boxy and oversized tops. Therefore, if you want to update your summer 2025 look, at a few pairs of flow equal ops or an absolute must.

Jumpsuits
Initially designed to be practical, jumpsuits are now a major part of Fashion, and are ideal for summer wear as long as you choose the right type of fabrics. Thicker cottons and twills should be avoided in the heat. Instead, lightweight natural fabrics such as linen are a great choice that will keep you cool and looking stylish all summer long. Linen also drapes wonderfully when cut right, so be sure to invest in a good quality jumpsuit made from linen this summer. Jumpsuits can also look amazing on a wide range of body types. For fuller figures, go for flowing jumpsuits that are tighter across the bust and then drop down into wide-leg or parachute-leg trousers. For more petite figures, body hugging jumpsuits with spaghetti straps can be a great choice, and can also be transitioned from day to night by changing the accessories you're wearing.

Lace
Whether it's pretty or grunge, lace is a mainstay of summer fashion this year. The great thing about this trend is that you can customize it to your look and style. For instance, if you want something extravagant and impactful, then garments made from lace tiers will make sure that every head turns when you go by. However, if you are looking for more of a subtle nod to this trend, a silk shift dress with lace trim around the neckline can be a super stylish but muted option.
