Start The Day Right With Lemon Water

My first drink of the day is usually hot water with lemon because it's such an easy way to detox and do something good for my body. Lemons are packed with vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and fiber which all boast numerous health benefits.

1. Boosts Immunity.  Lemons provide a natural boost to the immune system which helps the body protect itself from stress.

2. Aids Digestion.  Lemons have been shown to be effective in relieving indigestion, heartburn and bloating.

3. Supports Digestive Health. Lemons soothe the digestive system by neutralizing and flushing stored toxins as well as stimulating and strengthening the liver.

4. Relieves Pain and Inflammation.  Lemon water helps to dissolve uric acid buildup in joints and knees to ease inflammation.

5. Enhances Skin Health. They contain a high level of antioxidants which help protect against free radical damage and prevent acne and wrinkles.

<6. Balances pH Levels. The alkalizing effect of lemons counterbalance the body's pH levels against acid forming foods like alcohol, sugar and fat.

7. Improves Moods.  The potassium in lemons is a natural mood enhancer that helps to reduce anxiety and depression.

8. Freshens Breath.  Lemons contain natural essential oils which clean and freshen your mouth, prevent gingivitis and relieve toothaches.

9. Aids Weight Loss.  The pectin fiber in lemons is beneficial for colon health which reduces bloating and also counters hunger cravings.

10. Soothes Colds.  Drinking warm lemon water when you're sick can help soothe a sore throat as well as loosen up congestion and prevent dehydration.

To make, just squeeze the juice of a half a lemon into a cup of hot or warm water. It's best to consume this 15 - 20 minutes before having your breakfast so your body can absorb all the goodness and your metabolism will also get a jumpstart. To protect the enamel on your teeth, be sure to brush them before drinking lemon water. You can also try drinking it through a straw or rinsing your mouth afterwards. I don't happen to drink coffee ever and I find that lemon water is a great energizer in the mornings since lemons have a high concentration of negatively charged ions which improves oxygen uptake and brain function. I also sometimes drink a cup at night if I've had a particularly heavy meal and can vouch for the digestive benefits. It has to be hot though.

  1. I generally do coffee first thing in the morning, with Mexican hot chocolate flavor creamer. I do the lemon water with honey when I'm really sick since it's such a great throat soother. That's when I can keep lemons in the house - my boyfriend eats them like candy.

  4. I've heard that starting the day with a cup of warm water with lemon is very healthy. I don't really like how it tastes though, not because of the lemon, but because of the warm water. Usually I start my day with an orange/grapefruit fresh and after that I have breakfast. I may try sometimes lemon water in the evening, as you said, after a heavy meal.   6. Morning Rowena! What a coincidence, last week I was talking of this habit with a girl at the gym as she does it everyday and I didnt know all the benefits it could have.   13. My first cup in the morning is just plain ol' water and then followed by 2 cups of coffee half an hour later. I've never tried a hot water with lemon though but it sure sounds good. Will give it a try tomorrow morning.

The reason why I started to drink hot lemon water was because I read that it helps with Chron...and besides it can't hurt, right? I love lemonade and this is just a variation of it.

  39. I used to drink this a lot in the past but it made my teeth senstive (no I haven't brushed them after the lemon water). Now I start my day with hot water. My sisters starts her day with hot ginger and honey. Maybe I should try lemon water again but with less lemon lol. It tastes great and it's healthy and I try to stick to my new year's resolution.   42. I had read about this before and I gave it a try. For a month I would have warm lemon water every morning. Honestly, I thought it was disgusting and I couldn't tell that it helped me out in any way. I just couldn't get use to that taste and gave it up.

  48. I don't like hot water with lemon but I do love room temperature or chilled water with lemon. Something about it warm doesn't go down right with me. And I know how good it is for you too, especially when you're feeling sick, it's supposed to be a miracle cure but I just can't stomach it hot lol!

  53. Wow! I have been making lemon with warm water and honey for my two boys for the past few days already as they are down with quite bad sore throat!

    It does help to ease the pain a bit and my big one loves it more than my second son ^_^

    It is very nutritious! I only wish that I am discipline enough to take it myself Daily!
