The last Chanel exhibit I viewed in New York was a celebration of The Little Black Jacket and if you follow me on Instagram, you might know that this past weekend we checked out No. 5 in a New Light, a pop-up exhibition in Chelsea dedicated to the impressive 94 year heritage of Chanel's classic fragrance. This is an innovative, interactive journey guided by the senses through the processes of creation, cultivation, composition, abstraction and revelation that reveals the iconic scent in a completely new light.
Even though it was a free event, an online timed ticket reservation system was set up for entry. We were greeted by well groomed men in suits as soon as we approached the entrance on 14th and Tenth who quickly found our reservations and checked us in on their iPads. Inside another suited attendant welcomed us with a quick overview before sending us on our tour. As we made our way through, we listened to the wisdom of Gabrielle Coco Chanel, waved our hands over virtual pools of jasmine and rose petals to learn about how the flowers were picked, interacted with light discs to produce musical notes that conveyed fragrance notes and peered through a 3D sculpture of a No. 5 bottle. We were then encouraged to create custom postcards with rubber stamps that would be sent to family and friends. I made three. At the end there was an introduction to Chanel No. 5 Eau Première which is a modern interpretation of the original No. 5 that is lighter, fresher and more delicate. It was a really cool experience which I'll be sharing with you here. I apologize in advance for the image overload but this is the tightest edit I could get to that properly translates the spirit of the exhibition.

The exhibit was on a limited run from May 7 to May 17 at 461 West 14th Street in NYC. If you missed it, you can also learn more about Chanel No. 5 in this short film from the brand. Chanel No. 5 Eau Première is already available for sale. I sampled the fragrance and it definitely has a softer and fresher feel than the original. Would you be interested in trying this new scent?

Ahhh that flower cart! If I was there I'd attempt to take that home with me, somehow, discreetly. LOL. Looks like it was a wonderful exhibition, so fanciful and full of life. Nothing short of what you'd expect from Chanel.

That looks like a great exhibition, Rowena and how I wish there's something like this where I live. The highs and lows of living in a small town. And I can't believe that Chanel has been around for 94 years, that's a very long time!

What a wonderful experience! I always thought No 5 was a bit overpowering. I'm glad to hear that this is a bit lighter now. I'll definitely be asking for a sample next time I'm at the beauty counter :)

I remember you attending the last Chanel exhibit Rowena! This one was just as awesome. I love the interaction and how they got everyone involved. I'm glad to hear about the new scent! I was never the biggest fan of the older one. HaHaHa I can't wait to smell it. Thank you for sharing this!

Wow what an amazing exhibtion. You had to make custom postcards. That is awesome. I like the old No 5 but it's a but too heavy for me. I can't wait to try the new lighter version. I'm really curious. Maybe this could be my new scent. Wish you a happy Tuesday Rowena :)
xx
What an amazing exhibition. Wow! But to be honest, I just hate it when they change an already perfect scent and call it by the same name. They have done that a lot the last couple of years, Dior, Chanel, I don't get it, what's wrong with them. Why don't they just keep the original one and launch the *new* one by a different name? I miss the Miss Cherie by Dior perfume from 2005 dearly, and I am not the only one. Same goes for Coco. The original version was heavenly.

oh my, Rowena! This is so cool and must be delightful to see, smell and hear, almost like a 4D kind of experience, huh? and the best part was, you get to do something for memory to bring back, that is such a memento *_^
The last time I had been to such an exhibition or tour in such great details would have to be many years back in Singapore, when my family and myself went for the HUMAN BODY ANATOMY one, it was kind of scary and "gruesome" for my boys as they were still quite young then and also the fact that they were SOOO real!! haha but that was an awesome and eye-opening experience for me.
If I were in NYC, I would love to visit this, most definitely *_^
Thanks for sharing this, I feel that I have actually visited already! haha, in a way. Lovely week ahead, my dear Rowena.
Big hugs,
Jeann
