Through My Lens : Recently On Instagram

Snow NYC, Winter NYC

Well the winter weather finally arrived and snowstorm Jonas blew in and dumped a winter's worth of snow over 24 hours onto NYC. Of course when I'm encouraged to stay indoors, I just want to go out so we took a short walk during the height of the storm. This is a video I too that shows the intensity of it. These are just a few highlights from last month. To see more, click over to my Instagram feed and of course you can also follow if you'd like.

I don't ever wish for snow because it is really only pretty when it is falling. The day and week after, it just becomes mounds of grey and black slush and slush lagoons which are a real pain to navigate around in the city. This photo isn't that bad btw. I didn't want to snap a pic of the real grossness cause it's that disgusting. Most of the snow is gone now.

Our snow day eats included some of the hundreds of dumplings from our freezer that we made several weeks ago. I really like that I don't have to go buy out the grocery store whenever there's bad weather because I keep a well stocked pantry and refrigerator at all times.

Maman opened in Tribeca recently and we stopped by for brunch. This outpost is just as charming as the original in Soho which I had previously reviewed.

Oh wow, this looks like one serious snow storm - and I bet that the city's not always doing the best work to deal with it (it's the same over here). Anyway, the brunch at Maman sounds and looks absolutely delightful, and your photo makes me crave something more substantial now than my usual smoothie :)
Have a lovely Wednesday, my friend!

I know what you mean. Urban snow is not much fun, snow is better enjoyed in the mountains or ski resorts. I didn't see much snow this year. I went to visit a friend in Bosnia (that's the other and colder region of Bosnia and Herzegovina) but it started snowing only as I was leaving and boarding the bus...but even there the snow didn't stick and this is a region where snow is supposed to last until Spring...crazy weather changes.

I loved seeing these dishes...they all look exteremly yummy. I see that the snow storm didn't get in the way of your cooking:).

The detail from the library is stunning...such an amazing building!

The first photo is very pretty, but I know what you mean about snow. It's the same situation here - when it snows it is magical, but after a few days it gets disgusting. This winter is weird - while it was -17 last week here, today it's going to be +17! Anyway, your IG feed is one of my fav. I always enjoy seeing photos from NYC, you know. I love the street art so much! Have a nice day, Rowena! xo

Thanks for sharing your snowstorm experience. I've been twice to NY during winter and since last time I swore to myself that I would not do it again. It's too much hassle and there is a risk of flight delays and so on. This winter I booked a trip to sunny California instead. Just want to see the sun!

Amazing pictures. I could not do with all the snow though, am so glad not see so much snow now that I live in Scotland. Michigan winters were too much for me. I do however love all this food you've taken a picture of, looks so good :)) xx

Stunning snaps as usual, Rowena! People somehow never talk about the aftermath of snow so it's a bit of a surprise to hear about it here, haha. I hope you have a great February!

Rowena, your homemade dumplings look so good. I know where to go if there's an apocalypse or something:D
Anyhoo, yeah...the aftermath of all the snowfall is never good:( I hate driving through all that slush, and people get more stupid for some reason on the roads.

I love the street art. And I am so glad the storm is behind us. A lot of the snow has already melted away and it's raining today so I imagine the sidewalks and the piles of snow on the streets will be gone (or mostly gone). can't wait for spring.

The steelhead bowl looks delicious, and what a great beauty haul you made! I love the MJ highliner gel crayon too, and bought the reg. size I loved it so much. Prepping food before harsh winters is always a smart thing to do, we do it for chopped veggies & bone broths. It saves time in the end when you don't feel like cooking much or if you can't get to the grocer. Stay warm, Rowena. Happy February! :)

Beautiful photos, Rowena. Yep snow is only nice while falling, the rest is just a big mess. We haven't got much snow here this winter, tho. The dishes looks all so yummy. Happy birthday, girl, love the things you bought. Happy February.

Snow sounds very romantic if you don't have to go out and get somewhere, so I am with you on the well-stocked fridge, even though mine doesn't contain dumplings.

You're quite right, snow is only pretty when it's falling or very soon after - then it turns to sludge! I have to admit to loving all kinds of unusual weather, so even the sludge has me excited haha :) You have such a lovely Instagram Rowena :)

My friend brought me to view Maman's interior a few weeks back because it's super cute, but I didn't know they started out in New York! TORONTO IS BECOMING COOL! But I actually will be going back there in a week or so for a PR event, which will be pretty exciting! I for one, actually love snow--I wish we had that much snow here! It's just really beautiful to see the city draped in a white blanket, even if it does become a pain to navigate through.
