MyChelle Sun Care Takes A Reef Safe Approach to Sun Safety

MyChelle Sun Protection,MyChelle Review, MyChelle Dermaceuticals, Reef Safe Sunscreen

Sunscreen might just be the single, most important skincare product that everyone should be using.  Regular usage will protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun’s harmful rays, which can include burning, wrinkles, and skin cancer. When choosing a sunscreen it's important to look for broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection and be generous in your application.

I was recently introduced to a few new additions to the MyChelle Sun Care collection. A pioneer in advanced, bioactive skin care, MyChelle Dermaceuticals transformed the natural beauty industry as the first to use anti-aging peptides, plant stem cells, and clinically proven bioactive ingredients.  With a focus on clean, conscious, and comprehensive skin care, their product range is formulated with high-performance, bioactive, ethically sourced botanical ingredients to deliver superior results. MyChelle Dermaceuticals products are vegan; reef safe; biodegradable; and free of GMO, gluten, parabens, petroleum, phthalates, silicones, sulfates, urea's, artificial fragrances and artificial colors.

The choice between physical or chemical sunscreen is often down to a personal preference. And there has long been a debate about which works better. MyChelle sun care products offer physical protection. The active ingredient in these products is zinc oxide which is stable and provides broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection without penetrating the skin.  MyChelle sun care products are also reef safe. Why is this important? Well Hawaii recently became the first state to pass legislation banning the sale of chemical sunscreens made with two specific ingredients in order to preserve marine ecosystems. Oxybenzone which has been associated with photoallergic reactions along with octinoxate can both cause major damage to coral reefs and have been linked with a phenomenon known as coral bleaching that can cause young coral to be trapped in their own skeletons, hindering their growth and leading to a form of coral death that has plagued coral reefs worldwide in recent decades. Just something worth mentioning because it's been in the news

MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid SPF 50 Non Tinted

$22 (1 fl oz/30 mL)

MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid SPF 50 is a non-tinted, 100% mineral sunscreen that provides maximum UVA/UVB broad-spectrum protection. The silky, colorless formula blends weightlessly and seamlessly for a matte, finish. Can be worn alone or as a sheer primer under foundation to create a smooth, matte finish. The formula is 100% zinc oxide-based and contains bentonite clay to absorb excess oil throughout the day. Oil-free formulation is recommended for all skin types.

Ingredients: Active: Zinc Oxide 16.1% Inactive: Agave Tequilana Leaf Extract, Bentonite, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oleosomes, Cetearyl Alcohol, Coco-Glucoside, Diheptyl Succinate, Glycerin, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein / PVP Crosspolymer, Iron Oxides, Jojoba Esters, Maltose, Octyldodecanol, Sodium Gluconate, Tocopherol, Trihydroxystearin, Water

MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid, MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid Review, MyChelle Sun Care, Reef Safe Sunscreen

MyChelle Sun Shield Liquid SPF 50 is packaged in a substantial plastic bottle with a screw top, lockable pump dispenser which is both practical and hygienic. The directions call for it to be shaken well before use. This is important since I forgot once and the product came out much thicker. Otherwise it has a smooth texture and no discernible scent. The product starts out white in color and does need to be worked in a little to fully absorb. Once it is absorbed, it feels weightless without any greasiness and no dreaded white cast. The finish is matte as described which is probably the only thing I don't like about it because I'm just not into the matte skin look. I can usually get around that with my CCC cream that has a dewy finish but I felt like it was a little drying through the day which emphasized the look of my pores. Not a good look. This is probably due to the bentonite clay. My husband has also tried this product and the matte finish agrees more with his oily skin. He liked the lightweight feel and didn't mind wearing it. This sunscreen was also easy to remove when it came time to wash our faces. Personally I think it works better for non-dry skin types but this is a solid sun protection option that is affordable. MyChelle also makes a tinted version that comes in two shades which can be used in place of foundation.

Sunscreen in stick form is very appealing from a portability perspective especially when it also happens to offer water-resistant, SPF 50 broad spectrum protection. Easily swiped on, this product effortlessly glides onto my skin, depositing a layer of pigmented sunscreen. The tint is light with a slight sheen and there is a faint scent of cocoa butter. The tint which evens out my skin tone and lightly hydrating without feeling heavy is ideal for use on my legs and I love that I can just throw this in my bag for touchups throughout the day.

MyChelle Replenishing Solar Defense Body Lotion SPF 50 dispenses out of it's tube with a thick consistency that is more like a cream than a lotion. It has a silky feel and a barely there cocoa butter scent that quickly dissipates as the product is absorbed. It is smooth and requires a little rubbing to work in. It leaves my skin moisturized without feeling greasy and there is no white residue. This is another solid sun protection product that I will enjoy using.

If you happen to prefer mineral sunscreens, I'd suggest looking into these options from MyChelle. They are all practical and cleanly formulated with effective, skin friendly, ingredients that are classified as safe on the EWG website. My favorite is the MyChelle Sun Shield Stick SPF 50 which I'm now wondering how I've lived with before. And it's only $12. I will definitely be picking up some more. MyChelle products are sold online through the MyChelle's own website as well as Amazon and Thrive Market.

I do use sun protection daily, but I‘ve not used MyChelle‘s. I love the idea of a more ethically produced range of sun protective products. There’s nothing worse than a sun protective lotion that leaves a residue or odd colour cast on your skin.
Wishing you a lovely new week ahead. :-)

I use SPF every day, usually a mix between chemical and physical sunscreens as these are the formulas that agree best with my Skin and preferences.

I've heard of MyChelle before but have never tried it! I do like the sound of all of them, but the portability of the stick really makes it a winner for me. I'll put this on my to-try list, chingu:) I've been using the Bioré one for a long time now, but it never hurts to try something new.
PS That's so sad that chemical sunscreens are doing this to the reefs. I would just use them when I'm not going to the water, which is really pretty easy considering where I am.:)

Morning Rowena! Oh this brand already caught my attention, the products look great and Id like to try them, especially the stick which is ideal for on the go. I usually use the sunscreen and now I have to shop some new items. Happy Monday dear! xo

I'm all about mineral sunscreens and also read about the unfortunate effects of chemical sunscreens. I really like the natural components of these products and will check them out. I'm Asian so of course I'm programmed to wear sunscreen (but I'm only putting hats on my kids for now lol)

I really like the ingredient list that I see here and will keep this brand in mind for future purchases. I only found out about sunscreen affecting the coral reef around last year and through a customer and I wish there are more awareness in this matter.

Sunscreen is a must have in my routine, but honestly most Western brand chemical sunscreens have been disappointing, especially in the limited availability of ingredients and the fact that coral bleaching ingredients are often among them :( I've heard of MyChelle but wasn't aware of their sunscreen range, and I'm really impressed by their high % of zinc oxide! Will have to keep these in mind for future sunscreen purchases!

So cool they have it on Amazon as I have a prime account with them, thanks for the introduction. Going to checkout if there is one just for the face. Maybe that is what the shield stick is for.

Thanks for reviewing these! I am still partial to the ones that contain UV blockers from both worlds but have been looking for a good all mineral options as well. I think they work pretty nicely under pressed powder makeups. I'm glad to see that now we have more of reef-safe choices that actually work. :)

Mychelle Sun sounds like a great line! So far I have only used physical protection, I haven't tried chemical ones so it is hard for me to compare, but I had no idea that chemical sun-cream can be damaging to ecosystem. I didn't know that there was a law against chemical sun protection usage in Hawaii...why, the damage these products are doing to the coral reef must be real.

Mychelle Sun Screen Liquid Cream SPF 50 sounds great and I do like the practical packaging. Tinted Version also seems nice. Body lotion seems perfect too. 80 minutes water resistant is impressive. That body stick is amazing too. I don't think I've ever seen a sun screen product that comes in a stick, but now that I think of, it sounds so practical, a perfect product to have in our purse. Thank you for your detailed presentation/review.

I haven't tried this brand before but I totally need to. I consume tons of sunscreen daily because I reapply more often than most because of my job. Finding a proper spf 50 isn't easy
