Current Mood

Reading...  Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams. Interesting stuff and let's just say that this book totally justifies the old lady in me who prioritizes sleep and goes to bed at 10:30 some nights.

Watching... The Rise Of Phoenixes. I wasn't initially too invested in this historical drama due to it's slow start but when a production is an epic 70 episodes, it needs to pace itself. At the heart of the narrative is an ill fated romance between the descendants of two rival royal families destined to become enemies but the overall story is more complex. The production values are really impressive. It feels more like a movie than a drama at times and there's actually character development. The cinematography is beautiful and there is an exacting attention to detail to everything from the sets, the atmosphere to the costumes. Chen Kun and Ni Ni both deliver such compelling multifaceted performances and the supporting cast is really good as well (except for the 7th prince who is really meh). I'm quite fascinated by the portrayal of ancient Chinese culture as well as the royal intrigue, political machinations and treachery. It's better to watch government corruption in a drama than the actual news. 凰权·弈天下 is on Netflix with English subtitles.

Listening... to Throw It Off by Khalil Fong. The new English song by the talented singer is so catchy and carries a deep message that if we truly listen to our conscience and hearts, we can find our best qualities within. Filmed in southern China, the MV features some spectacular scenery. Khalil said he chose mythical Qilin because it is deeply rooted in Chinese culture and yet its association with morality and values is universal and is a topic that is becoming more important in the current age.

Eating... burrito bowls. They're simple to make and the options are endless. I like how they can easily become vegetarian and low carb by changing up the ingredients. Avocado is always a must for me though.

Drinking... matcha lattes. This matcha powder is my favorite for it's taste and quality.

Wearing... this Sezané Avery Jumper. It's so pretty and soft!

Learning... how to hand letter. Something I've been wanting to do for awhile and I'm making it happen. This book I picked up at the Amazon store is a fantastic primer.

Can't... stop, won't stop using sheet masks. They are especially a must following my Clear + Brilliant treatments to replenish and soothe my skin. The Rodial Pink Diamond Lifting Face Mask and Dr. Jart Ceramidin Facial Mask are both so good!

Going.. out to vote tomorrow! This may be one of the most important elections during our lifetime and the best way to make an impact on future of our country right now is to get and vote.

Finished... with my fall cleaning and I can't believe it's November already.

70 episodes? That makes me shy away from anything, I don´t think I would be able to finish it even over the course of a year!

Why we sleep sounds like a great book! I sometimes go to sleep at 10 pm, especially when I know I'll be working non stop the following day and I have to get up at 5 or 6 am. When I need to get up at 7 pm, then I go to sleep later. The Rise of Phoenixes sounds interesting. It is definitely more fun to watch political drama and corruption on TV then in the news- and it's certainly less depressing.

Yes yes yes to matcha lattes! I had my first one in Spain and it was gorgeous - and somehow lactose free because of the milk they used? It was absolutely stunning.

Have a great week :)

I'm a big fan of Chinese historical dramas and for me the more episodes the better! I've been looking for a new one to watch after finishing Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, so thank you for the recommendation!
